This term in science, we have been learning about energy and energy at home. What I have learnt is that the fluorescent bulbs are really wasteful because they produce more heat which is 80% then they do light which is raising costs on your power bills. I have also learned how to read a electricity meter. Also how energy transfers through the home.
This will help me in the future by managing bills and also having to do another project like this then I will have knowledge before hand.

throuht out this term i have been discuvering how energy is wasted and used around my home.

what i lernt from this task
i found out that at my home i have 3 phases, because of the langth of my drive way and becaus of my aircondition, which wastes a lot of power in cooling my home. i also found out that L.E.D lights are vervy energy efitiont but they cost more than $20 and are too expensive to ues in the home.

what action i',m going to take as a resolt of this task
i am only going to try to ues the lights less and try to keep all the doors closed when the AC is on, also i will try not to ues the AC as much and ues some fans insted.

Energy @ Home Project


This term in Science, our grade has done a project on Energy in our homes. This project allowed us to analyse our enrgy consumption in detail. In the asssignment, we looked at how energy is transferred and transformed in the home, how energy is lost in the home and how to improve energy-efficiency in the home.


What I have learned in this project is how to read an electricity meter, how to correctly identify different light bulbs, and how to research accurately and create a report.
This will help me in the futuure for when I have to run a home myself. This has also helped me to set out my time much more evenly in order to complete an assignment. This project will be one of my milestones for life.

Energy At Home Science Project

The energy at home science project was very interesting, and heped me create new understandings. I learnt that lightbulbs aren't just lightbulbs. There are LED's, Halogens, Incandescents and many more, and all have a different impact on the environment. Just the section on lightbulbs made me more aware on what changes my family should make, and I am now making suggestions on what would save them more money and use less power.

Checking all the star ratings of my appliances made me much more aware of my family's power use. My washing machine is only 1 star out of 6, making it extremely inefficient. My dishwasher is only 2.5 stars out of 6, so it uses a lot of power. My fridge is 3 stars out of 6, so it is kind of efficient, and kind of inefficient. These appliances should all be replaced, ideally with 4 or 5 star machines. Replacing them would reduce energy use, and the power cost.

I also learnt that little things can make a big difference. For instance, on a sunny summer day I could leave most of the lights off, because if I leave them on the air conditioner would have to work harder because of the extra heat radiated from the lights. Making sure all lights are off and all power switches are turned off before I leave home could also make a significant difference.

This project has made me SOO much more aware of my family's energy use. I am now trying to make a difference, in my family's energy use, my family's energy cost and the environmental impact. And it's all thanks to this Energy At Home Science Project!

Science at home reflection

This will probably be my final post jp7numeracy blog because in 2 and a half days I will no longer be in year 7. Over the past month we have been doing a research task on energy around the house. It covered transfering and transforming energy around the home, how energy is lost in the home and which ways we can save energy around the home. This helped my family understand how much energy little things in the house waste.

I am now going to pull out all my appliances that are on standby or are not being used. I am also going to turn off lights in rooms that are not being used. My family has not changed their views on electricity usage at all, sadly.

Science at Home Reflection

This term in science our class has been working on a booklet called Energy at Home. From going through this booklet i have learnt how my family is wasting energy and using energy in the household. This has been benificial to my family, we have now chosen more energy efficient appliances and have changed our lifestyle to save money.

Reflection- Science @ home booklet

Semester 2 Term 4, in Science we got a assignment that was a little different to other assignments. We got handed out a booklet that we had to work on at home. We had to fill in the blank spaces. The knowledge I got out of this booklet was incredible. By the knowledge I gained, I used it on the report. It was really helpful, i think i did very good in this task. I learnt many things that i never heard of before.

Energy @ Home Reflection

While doing the Energy at home booklet, I learnt many things. I learnt about more efficient ways to use energy at home such as for lighting, heating and cooling. I learnt about energy efficient lightbulbs like the fluorescent bulb and I also learnt about the energy star rating on appliances. I also learnt about conduction, convection and radiation in the home. Something I also learnt is the different things that can be installed to prevent energy that is wasted and to improve energy efficiency in the home such as solar panels or whirly birds.

Something I gained from this is knowledge on the use of energy at home. I gained information on the different types of ways that energy is used and wasted at home and how to prevent a lot of this happening. I also gained experience from doing the experiments.

With the information I have learnt, I will take into consideration the energy star rating and buy an appliance with a high rating. Also, I will install energy efficient devices in my house such as solar panels and a whirly bird to cut back on energy costs. I will also change the incandescent lghtbulbs to more efficient forms of lighting like fluorescent lights.

Energy @ Home Reflection

After completing the Energy @ Home project, I have gained much knowledge which I can use to reduce our energy usage costs.

I have learnt a lot about kilowatts, our energy usage in a day, light bulbs, ways to reduce energy costs, and energy star ratings.

I can use this knowledge around my house and in the school. At home, I plan to promote the ideas of getting roof insulation and a solar energy system. At school, I can remember to turn off unused lights and other appliances.

Overall, this was a worthwhile project and a learnt many things.

Energy @ Home

During this term we have been working on an energy @ home project, that involved reading electricity meters, researching different lightbulbs and the conductivity of kitchen appliances. I gained much knowledge from these topics. From the knowledge I have gained my family and I will change some behaviors like: turning off appliances at the wall and closing doors when the air conditioner or heater is running. As a result of this task we have replaced 15 incandescent lightbulbs to compact fluroscent bulbs.

Energy at home project

Over the past couple of weeks we have been doing a home project about energy. I have learnt a lot during this project. If you want to save energy and money you should turn off your power points. You can turn off your appliances by the wall and not leave the them on standby. You should turn off your television if you are not watching it.

I also learnt that my washing machine uses a lot of energy, it has a rating of 1 star. To save more energy you could hang your clothes outside instead of using a dryer. You could take shorter showers because it would use energy to heat up your water. You could only use your dishwasher if it full. A better way to wash your dishes is to hand wash them. You could try not to use the air conditioner, if your house hot you can open a window or if it's cold you can put on a jacket. This project has made me more aware of how much energy we are wasting.

My Reflection

This term we did a science at home avidity and I have learnt allot from this project. I have learnt that my house waists allot of energy and I need to do something about it. I have also learnt that I should replace the light bulbs in my room to LED because they use less energy and electricity. I should also close my windows, doors and close my curtains, when the air conditioning is on. This has really helped me learn more about energy and how I can be a better person at saving energy.

During science we had to complete a booklet to learn and be more aware of energy effieciency in our house that we live in. During this I learnt that our home isnt very energy effiecient as the lowest rating was 1 and the highest was 2 and a half. I also learnt how energy is lost through lighting which is '' the electric power to lights is converted to heat. Unless special arrangements as local cooling or air outlets through the lighting equipment are used this is what will happen.


Those are the main things I learnt we also learnt about different types of lights and how they work and how to read an energy meter.


Energy at home reflection


From this energy booklet I have found many different ways to use energy efficiantly. Without this knowledge I would not of been able to shar it, because now I know what level our energy usage is at now I can keep an eye on it which I have been doing, I have been checking it every two days making sure we are not using to much. I have learnt many things like:

So I have learnt alot from this energy booklet, well not just me bbut now that my family is awaye of how our energy is going we can now see if we need to swap for better efficiancy.

Science at home reflection

During this assignment I have learnt a variety of things. I have learnt how much energy our household uses, which light bulbs are most energy efficient, which sources are renewable and non- renewable and how main appliances in our household waste so much energy.

I found that we should replace some appliances such as our fidge and washing maching, as the star rating was very low. I also established that we use much more energy during weekends, rather than weekdays. This showed in our meter readings, as during weekends the results wre much higher.

A way we could reduce our energy use is turning things off when not in use, not leaving things on standby, changing light bulbs and using natural rather than turning on lights and changing light bulbs.

I learnt more about light bulbs and found that in our household we use halogen and fluorescent light bulbs. I learnt that halogen light bulbs can get really hot and that fluorescent light bulbs are very efficient. But even though they are energy efficient they contain mercury, so we have to dispose of it well.

Renewable and Non-renewable sources


Renewable sources of energy is Tidal power, Wind power, Wave power, Wood, Hydroelectricity, Radiant energy, Geothermal energy, biomass, Compressed natural energy and Nuclear power. Some Non-renewable sources are Coal, Oil, Gas and Nuclear.

What is the most efficient light bulb and why

The new compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) use significantly less electricity when used. This is mainly because CFLs produce a lot less heat compared to incandescent light bulbs, and the generation of heat is basically the loss of energy. Even though CFLs are more expensive than incandescent light bulbs, if it believed that CFLs are more cost effective when factoring in their longer life spans and lower energy consumption. If this is true, then there is no need to ban the traditional incandescent light bulbs; because the free market will automatically obsolete the least cost effective type of light bulb. The only problem with CFLs is that they contain an extremely toxic substance called mercury. If a single CFL breaks, then it could be very costly to clean up.

how is energy lost

Well for heating and cooling it would be through our windows, the T.V looses energy through the screen because the monitor on the T.V that uses and needs the energy the most and even light bulbs because almost half of its energy is half wasted through heat energy. No when energy goes away it is only being changed into matter. EX: gasoline can be used to create certain gases and electricity. Energy is being created from matter. Then the electricity is used to give power to a lamp. The electricity is being converted into heat and light energy.
