  1. Explain why the particles moved the way they did in this experiment.
  2. This investigation modelled heat transfer by convection. Outline the benefits of modelling concepts in Science.
  3. Are convection currents modelled accurately in this investigation? What limitations are there to modelling concepts in Science?

  1. 1. As the particles heated up, they rose to the top of the beaker. When the particles were the furthest away from the heat source (top of beaker), they became closer together and sank to the bottom.

    2. This effect is difficult to see under normal situations.

    3. The effect was clear in this prac, but some limitations could include: invisible substances, dangerous environment and not understanding after seeing.

  2. 1. As the particles heated up, it rose to the top of the water. When the particles were futherest away from the bunsen burner, they came together and went to the bottom.

    2. This motion is hard to see in real life.

    3. The motion was clear to see in this prac, but the substances were very hard to see

  4. This is a very interesting video! It was fascinating to see the dark purple rising to the top, as the hot water rises, and cooling, settling as a light pink and sinking. Very cool video jp7numeracy :)
