Does 1kg of water weigh 1.01kg?

Question from TB today:

I was looking for some facts about water, and I stumbled across this site.

They were quite interesting, but look at fact number 18. It says

that a litre of water weighs 1.01 kilograms. Is that True?

  1. You should maybe investigate how the metric system was set up. Most people think it was a French idea but it was actually proposed by an Englishman... Do you know why A4 paper is called A4, and how the sizes were decided...?

  2. Thank- you, colintgraham- I certainly will research that. For any future comments, I think the tiltle was supposed to be, 'Does 1 LITRE of water weigh 1.01kg?'

  3. I thought you meant litre, I didn't want to mention that though! Here is another related question: What volume does 1.01kg of ice occupy - is it more or less than 1 litre or is it the same as liquid H2O?
